As many of you already know, I recently went to New York and got to attend this year's New York Fashion week. I have gotten so many questions since then asking how I was able to go and what it was like. I wish I could say I have finally made it in the fashion world and was actually invited to attend NYFW, but that's not the case...yet ;) So here's what actually happened:
A few months ago, while living in Sydney, I signed up to win a sweepstakes held by Refinery29 and Rag & Bone. All I had to do was simply enter my email. Refinery29 hosts several sweepstakes so if you don't have an email subscription to them I'd highly recommend you sign up (because guess what...you can actually win them!) The prize was two tickets to attend the Rag & Bone NYFW show with backstage access, $2,500 to spend at their flagship store, 4 night stay at the Edition Hotel, and airfare...like what! One could only dream of winning such a prize!!
A few months later I received an email saying I won! I was a little skeptical because it seemed too good to be true. I received the email however from the Account Director of Refinery29, which made it seem more legit. They asked I sign and send back two forms: A Declaration and Release (the rules concerning the sweepstakes) and a W-9 (so they can write off taxes).
I brought along my mom and sister, and we were on a flight to NYC three days later. We stayed at The Edition Hotel, thanks to Mr & Mrs Smith Hotels. It's located in the Flatiron District with a perfect view of the Flatiron building and a Shake Shack right outside the door (you can't get a better set up than that). Everything was exceptional, from the rooms, to the restaurant, to the staff, and especially their bathroom robes!! It is also very popular with many celebrity and public figures so it was cool to see who you'd run into next. The location is perfect too, since its right in between everything. This place is a DEFINITE must stay if you're planning a trip to NY.
The Rag & Bone show was the main event of the prize and it was seriously amazing! It was fascinating seeing some of the fashion icons I've been following for so long. I can't explain how thankful I am to have been able to attend such an amazing amazing show. I also got to meet the designers, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville. Not only are they extremely talented designers but they seemed like very genuine down to earth people, which was cool to see. You can watch the whole show down below!
Overall, the trip was amazing! Yes of course we ended up spending quite a bit of our own money because it is New York and we wanted to do and eat a lot while we were there (that the prize didn't cover). We were very fortunate to get to experience such an amazing trip!
Moral of the story ladies & gents, start entering in sweepstakes!! But please be very cautious of which ones you enter. Make sure they have credible sources and be aware of how they phrase things. You shouldn't need to give them a crazy amount of personal info.
Here are some photos. Enjoy! Xx
